I guess just... why? When all the other gaming products were set in the “present” time period of Guardians of the Lost, why is this one set 200+ years in the “past” of Well of Darkness?
I mean, sure, it makes sense to have one WoD tie-in product at a time when WoD was the only novel that had yet come out. But what makes it tragic is that OV is the only product that details any sort of location in Loerem. If it had been followed-up by a New Vinnengael city book and a Ruins of Old Vinnengael dungeon, that would be quite another thing. But it wasn’t. The d20 line saw mainly “player books” or “splatbooks”—skills and feats and prestige classes and fluff for your favorite race or nationality. Nothing good for the Game Master.
So, it’s too bad. And it leaves the GM with a tough choice. Use OV in the “past” but ignore all other products; or use the other products in the “present” and be stuck without OV. I suppose the third option would be to tweak OV and just use it as New Vinnengael. What do you think? Regards.
